What is the Virtual Dental Home?

Using innovative technologies, therapeutic and preventive dental care is delivered directly to the client.

There are people on Maui who do not have access to care for a variety of reasons.  Dental care is expensive.  People need care, but either have no insurance or low maximum benefits so they have no money for dental care. â€‹

  • As volunteer care providers, you can be part of a teledentistry connected dental team.

  • You, the teledentistry hygienists, and the dental assistant will go to sites with equipment to care for clients.

  • The teledentistry hygienists will be your mentors

People Need Dental Hygiene Care

  • Keiki (children) and kupuna (older adults) are among the most vulnerable to having oral health problems.

  • The virtual dental home will bring dental care to those who need it most and cannot afford care, those who are not capable to get to a dentist by themselves, and people who are physically or emotionally disabled.

  • Clients who have difficulty getting to the dental office can now be seen right where they are: at home, at Hale Makua, WIC, Keiki Head Start, and even at schools.
